They were the most
magical food I can think of! I remember once sneaking a whole box
to my bedroom and eating every last one so I wouldn't have to
share with my brothers. The day they took Space Food Sticks off
the market was the day my childhood was over.
--Coventry, England
I was eight years old when my parents bought
these for me, and I can still remember those chewy little peanut
butter sticks more vividly than almost anything else from my
childhood. I've wanted more of them for three decades!
--Atlanta, GA
Trekking through the jungles of the Amazon (actually the small
woods located behind our house) then taking a break with a
delightful meal of Space Food Sticks washed down with Tang from my
canteen cup. True enjoyment!
--Sullivan, IL
I just remember they were totally cool and tasted like nothing
else! They were fun, kinda' like todays fruit chews, but they were
good enough for the astronauts, so my mom would buy them for me!
--Austell, GA
I remember back in 1970 and '71 playing over at my next door
neighbors house and coming inside at 1:00 everyday to watch the
"Cartoon Express" and eating those yummy peanut butter
Space Food Sticks! Bring 'um back, and bring 'um back NOW!
--Lenoir, NC
Food Sticks, as we called them, were the best part of going to
Granny's house !!
--San Marcos CA
Awesome! That's the word I'd use to describe these yummy, chewy,
Tootsie Rollish snacks. I loved 'em, especially peanut butter!
Bring them back!
--Chicago, IL
All I remember is loving the peanut butter variety and every
since I was a kid I have been looking for a taste-equivalent. The
best I've found so far has been some of the nutrition bars from
the health food store.
--Thompson Falls, MT
I don't recall the actual name of the flavor (if you could call it
that) that I liked the best, but I remember it tasted a little bit
like chocolate laced with rubber bands.
--Carlsbad, CA
I loved the Sticks. Made me feel like I was an
astronaut, too! Please bring them back. I would buy them by the
sack full!!!
--Bethesda, MD
I remember feasting on chocolate and peanut butter stick
religiously when I was a youngster (about 25 years ago). They were
an interesting little snack, that I used to pick apart and roll
around in my hand until they were spherical. The weirdest thing
about these is that only one person besides my mom remembers them
(my husband doesn't even believe that they existed...but now he
may become a believer). Thanks for the site, I will be looking
forward to reading about and maybe even seeing these again in the
near future.
--Boston, MA
Space Food Sticks got me through lunch in elementary school. I
still vividly remember those delectable carmel, peanut butter and
chocolate sticks - bring them back!!!
--San Diego, CA
They were an easy and convenient junk food, and what more could
a kid want? Plus the space connection made 'em awful cool. I'm so
pleased I found your website. I was telling some of the
"children" in my office about space food sticks just
today, and they didn't believe me!
--Houston, TX
I loved these as a kid!!! I would buy soooo many of them!!
--Saugatuck, MI
I fondly remember Space Food Sticks. I have had diabetes since I
was five and when my blood sugar would get low, my mom would let
me have a Space Food Stick. I loved them, especially the caramel.
I wish they'd be reintroduces. We'd love to take them hiking.
--San Ramon, CA
They were great as a child. Like playdoh and food all in one. I
would mix two flavors to make little "earth" balls or
"moons" before eating them. I was a preschooler at the
time. As I got older I would just twist two flavors together. My
Grandmother always had some on hand for her grandchildren and we
loved them.
--Phoenix, AZ
Peeling off the layered
wrapper like a banana...exposing the fleshy snack...slowly sinking
my new permanant teeth into the deliciousness that was the Space
Food Stick. Bring 'em back!!!!!!
--Los Angeles, CA
They just tasted so awesome, especially when fresh. I used
to eat them while watching Scoobey Doo every Saturday morning as a
kid.
--Omaha NE
Waiting in the stationwagon (which we called the SPACEion wagon)
for my folk to come out of the Commsary with the weeks groceries
so I could have my Space Food Sticks. So that I could eat just
like the Real Astronauts!!! That box had to last me a WHOLE week!!
Denver, CO
I think my folks tried to pawn these off on us kids just once
too often as an actual meal!! I remember eating the slim jim
shaped chocolate and peanut butter ones in the back of our hot
station wagon one day, and later getting sick!! Still, I would try
them again for that nostalgic feeling!!
--Chicago, IL
I first tried them at Space Camp many years ago...they were
really good. Although they should have been, as the price that
NASA was paying for them makes that "$400 Pentagon
hammer" seem like a real bargain!!
--Las Vegas, NV
I forgot all about these until I surfed here! They were great
-- chewy and chocolaty -- and made our parents think they were
giving us something nutricious. BRING THEM BACK!!!
--Long Branch, NJ
